    Important Information

    This expedition crosses the border between Georgia and Armenia. All border fees and mandatory Armenian car insurance are included in the price. The trip involves off-road driving through mountain passes and remote areas in both countries. Participants should be comfortable with challenging road conditions and outdoor camping.

    The Route

    Kutaisi Airport

    Our team will pick you up at the airport and take you to the FSTA expedition base in Chiatura.

    Chiatura Expedition Base

    Your first night starts here. Meet the crew over a glass of Georgian wine and talk about the journey ahead.

    Vardzia

    A rock city and monastery, the biggest attraction of the Meskheti region. A fortress hidden in the rocks, invisible until 1283 when a great earthquake revealed the entire internal structure of this underground city.

    Yerevan

    The capital of Armenia, built of colorful volcanic tuff. Republic Square, the opera house, the Cascades with contemporary art, and the temple with the relics of St. Gregory the Illuminator.

    Stone Symphony (Garni Gorge)

    Basalt pillars reaching 50 meters in height create a mysterious atmosphere. The gorge is surrounded by beautiful landscapes, with a striking contrast between the pagan temple of Garni and the ancient monastery of Geghard.

    Geghard Monastery

    The most beautiful monastery in Armenia (UNESCO listed), located in majestic surroundings that will take your breath away. You may witness a religious service during the visit. The monastery is surrounded by stone khachkars and a beautiful panorama.

    Noratus Necropolis

    A medieval cemetery with the world's largest collection of historic khachkars, located in the village of Noratus. The oldest khachkars here date back to the 9th century AD.

    Lake Sevan

    The largest lake in Armenia and in the Caucasus, one of the highest lakes in the world at 3,190 m above sea level. Located 60 km northeast of Yerevan.

    Khor Virap Monastery

    The monastery above the prison dungeon where St. Gregory the Illuminator was held captive. One of the holiest places of the Armenian Apostolic Church, located just 30 km from Mount Ararat.

    Hayravank Monastery

    Situated on the shores of Lake Sevan, offering panoramic views in a remote, peaceful setting. The fairy-tale architecture and the legends surrounding this place make it a true gem by the lake.

    Lake Tabatskuri

    A high-altitude lake on the border between the Samtskhe-Javakheti and Shida Kartli regions of Georgia. Surrounded by volcanic hills, it is famous for crystal clear water and rich birdlife. This will be our highest campsite at over 2,000 m above sea level.

    Zekari Pass

    A picturesque mountain pass in the Imereti region of Georgia at approximately 2,182 meters above sea level. It leads through wild, forested areas of the Lesser Caucasus with spectacular views.
