Bagrationi
JSC Bagrationi 1882 is the first specialized company in Georgian producing sparkling wine in Georgia. The Company was founded in 1937. Nowadays Bagrationi 1882 is the leader of sparkling wines market in Georgia.
The name of JSC Bagrationi 1882 is connected to the name of Georgian Kings descendent Ivane Bagrationi –Mukhraneli, who started production of Georgian sparkling wines using French method of second fermentation in bottles in the middle of XIX century. For the first time the production acquired the world-wide acknowledgment in 1882 in Saint-Petersburg where it was awarded the highest prize - Grand Prix on the International Exhibition.

Nowadays, after 125 years, JSC Bagrationi 1882 is the most popular not only on the local market but throughout the entire Caucasus as well.

Georgia, located at Black Sea coast, surrounded by the Caucasian mountains, is then native land of winemaking and vineyards. Bagrationi 1882 well acknowledges the responsibility of Georgian wine culture and traditions retaining. Such a high requirement towards the quality of the production is the obvious evidence thereto.

Bagrationi 1882 plant is completely updated and equipped with the advanced Italian installations. Wine champagnization is implemented through bottle as well as reservoir method.

Along with well-developed material and technical basis Bagrationi 1882 possesses own vineyards within the most prestigious micro zones of Georgia in Imeteri and Kartli regions.

Chateau Mukhrani
In 2003, International Group Marussia Beverages with Georgian partners founded the Château Mukhrani Company. The Group intended to revive the Estate to its former glory and re-establish production at Mukhrani, combining modern and traditional technologies. New Investment Group aims to create strong international brands, which will serve as a profound representative of Georgian wine on the international market.

In 2007, Château Mukhrani is starting to build its modern wine making facility. This is when the Company is joined by the Chief Winemaker Lado Uzunashvili.

The same year 2007, the Company is making its own wine from the grapes harvested in its own vineyards. Vineyards are the key to making the wine exquisite and truly unique. The cellars are adjacent to the vineyards and grapes need max 15 minutes to travel to the processing point.

Teliani Valley
JSC Teliani Valley was founded in 1997 on the basis of “Teliani Winery of Vintage Wines”, which was built in 19th century in Tsinandali, in the neighborhood of Teliani’s vineyards. Tsinandali, due to peculiarities of its soil and microclimate, has always been the center of Georgian viticulture. Here in 1886-1887, at the place of the old wine cellar and winery of Prince Alexander Chavchavadze, a two-storey, 150 thousand-bucket winery was built by the decree of the Russian Emperor’s brother Michael Romanov. In 1891 Mossano, French winemaker from Bordeaux was invited to this cellar.

Mossano worked in Georgia for 9 years. He was first who introduced the European wine making technologies to Georgia from local vines. With his initiative various French grape species were brought to Georgia and cultivated. From all the foreign varieties Cabernet-Sauvignon, cultivated on Teliani Valley appeared to be the best. Mossano made Teliani wine from this grape. He send the first bottle to Emperor in Petersburg. The bottle had white paper attached saying “Cabernet-Sauvignon, From Teliani Valley 1893, Antoin Mossano”.

Emperor’s surrounding liked the wine very much. It was Mossano and wine Teliani, that made famous this small Valley situated on the fertile land of Kakheti. One can find Teliani and other Georgian-French wines and brandy of different harvests in old cellar of Tsinandali…

More than a century has passed from the first harvest of Teliani, legend about Mossano has faded away, however, one thing has remain unchanged, this is Teliani Valley, under the name of which Georgian wine has been produced for more than a century.

What to taste in Georgia?
Georgian cuisine is probably the most important attraction of the country. Since the traditional Georgian feast is an integral element of culture, Georgian entertainment should match its high level. Georgians have managed to make their cuisine not only magically delicious but also bright, original, exquisite, unique and unforgettable.

The Georgian cuisine is unique to the country, but also carries some influences from other European and nearby Middle Eastern culinary traditions. Each historical province of Georgia has its own distinct culinary tradition, with variations such as Megrelian Kakhetian and Imeretian cuisines. Heavy on meat dishes, the Georgian cuisine also offers a variety of vegetarian dishes.

You are in Georgia? Instead of eating pizza or spaghetti, you should taste Khachapuri, which is a traditional Georgian dish of cheese-filled bread. There are different  types of Khachapuri: Megruli (the upper side of Khachapuri contains egg); Imeruli (without egg) and Adjaruli Khachapuri (The bottom of a bread filled with cheese, butter and egg). You may taste the best Adjaruli Khachapuri in Adjara, mostly in Batumi, it is originated from there.
The other dish you should taste is Lobiani, bean-filled bread. In Georgia the most popular is Rachuli Lobiani, like a Khachapuri, but with bean and bacon.

You have not tasted Khinkali yet? You’ve lost a lot, it is a well known Georgian dish, originated in the Georgian mountain regions of  PshaviMtiuleti and Khevsureti. The original recipe, the so-called khevsuruli, consisted of only minced meat (lamb or beef and pork mixed), onions, chili pepper, salt and cumin. However, the modern recipe used mostly especially in Georgian urban areas, the so-called kalakuri, uses herbs like parsley and cilantro. The juice of Khinkali is the most delicious thing in the world. More juice= more delicious.

Kubdari  is a meat filled pastry that originates from Georgia’s Svaneti region. It can be made with either beef or pork but the most popular version uses both. It should be made with cut meat and not minced meat.

Ghomi is a traditional Georgian dish from western region of Samegrelo. It is made with cornmeal and slices of cheese put in the hot portions to melt before tasting.

Georgian Soups
It’s spring in Georgia? Taste Chakapuli, which  is made from lamb chops or veal, onions, tarragon leaves, cherry plums or tkemali (cherry plum sauce), dry white wine, mixed fresh herbs (parsley, mint, dill, cilantro), garlic and salt.

No matter what the season is, Ostri is great for all of them. The dish is a hot,  spicy beef stew that is very popular in Georgia, both as a home prepared meal and as a dish in restaurants. The meat  melts and the juice is perfect.

Khashi – is a beef interior, leg and head bone broth strongly seasoned with garlic. Traditionally khashi is eaten in the morning, especially by hangovers. This is a very rich, nutritious and healthy dish.

Kharcho is a beef soup with rice and walnuts on the basis of tklapi (thick puree of cherry plums) Combination of tender beef broth and natural sourness of tklapi along with spicy green seasoning and slightly astringent nut flavor create the characteristic taste and smell of kharcho soup. When kharcho is ready it is sprinkled with garlic, coriander and basil.

Georgian Dessert
Pelamushi  is a favorite Georgian dessert made mainly with pressed, condensed grape juice (badagi) and flour or flour plus corn flour.

Churchkhela is a sausage-shaped candy. The main ingredients are grape must, nuts and flour. Almonds, walnuts, hazel nuts and sometimes raisins are threaded onto a string, dipped in thickened grape juice or fruit juices and dried in the shape of a sausage. You may buy different types of Churchkhela  as a gift for your friends on Leselidze street.

Georgian cuisine is the result of the rich interplay of culinary ideas carried along the trade routes by merchants and travelers alike. The importance of both food and drink to Georgian culture is best observed during a feast called “Supra”,  when a huge assortment of dishes are prepared, always accompanied by large amounts of wine, that can last for hours. In a Georgian feast, the role of the “Tamada” (toast master) is an important and honoured position.

Chiatura

City is  located on the banks of the River Kvirila, originally it was meant as an industrial city - extraction and enrichment of manganese ores (Chiatura manganese deposit), quartz sand, marble quarrying; sand-lime brick factory. Before the discovery of manganese deposits here was a small village that bore the name of Kvirila - after the river, on the banks of which it has grew.

In 1921, the former village became a town.

In the 50s, the Soviet government decided to turn an ordinary industrial town in the "paradise on the earth", with health resorts, holiday homes and parks. One of the projects, "city of the future" was the construction of the so-called "Line 25" - the first Soviet passenger ropeway. The road was built in 1954, linking the center and one of the sleeping areas on the cliff, and is valid for sixty years without interruption.

Today Chiatura remains the only city in the world with the largest number of cable cars, built in the 1950s, which are used as free public transport.

Welcome to Georgia

From its green valleys spread with vineyards to its old churches and watchtowers perched in fantastic mountain scenery, Georgia is one of the most beautiful countries on earth shaped by rugged mountains, rivers, valleys and meadows. Equally special are its proud, high-spirited, cultured people: Georgia claims to be the birthplace of wine, and this is a place where guests are considered blessings and hospitality is the very stuff of life.
This amazing country lies in the middle of Caucasus region and has unspoiled natural beauty to complement its unique culture. Technically Georgia is located  at the intersection of Eastern Europe and West Asia, but its own people describe it in a very lovely way, it's the balcony of Europe. The Great Silk road, that connected China with Mediterranean world, crossed the territory of Georgia as well. Georgians say that when God divided Earth’s land among its peoples, the Georgians showed up late. They’d been toasting and praising him, they claimed. God so liked this excuse that he gave them his own land: the most fertile of all.

Georgia is the only place in Europe, where you can swim in tropical beach - Anaklia and at the same time go skiing in two hours in Mestia - a highland small town in northwest Georgia.

A deeply complicated history has given Georgia a wonderful heritage of architecture and arts, from cave cities to ancient cathedrals to the inimitable canvases of Pirosmani. Quaint villages and towns still dots the countryside while modern cities like Tbilisi, Batumi are highly captivating and photogenic.
The country offers something for every section of travellers. History lovers can see Narikala Fortress, Uplistsikhe, Gergeti Trinity Church. Adventure seekers can indulge in hiking, horse-riding, para gliding, caving, rafting, hunting. Do try the Georgian cuisine and its amazing culinary specialties and check out the nightlife of Tbilisi.
Georgia will teach you how to appreciate nature and show what influence people can have on your soul.

The Katskhi pillar
The fortress of Loneliness
The unique church of Katskhi constructed between VI and VIII centuries at pillar top  tower 40 meters high. The church has pagan roots and in pre-Christian times was a fertility symbol. The pillar represents the calcareous basis which wonderfully has stood apart from a rocky wall of the Katskhi gorge. Today the church represents the orthodox party of Christianity. The first modern mention of the Katskhi pillar belongs to 1944 when the climber Alexander Dzhaparidze has risen by his top, after this expedition the suspended ladder has been established. Rise to church  is allowed only to men, for religious reasons, the similar ban worked in pagan shrines in mountain regions of Georgia with Tusheti and Khevsureti (from this point of view and also  appearance the pillar is very similar to the reduced copy of Greek Meteora ).

Two relics  found here during archaeological researches are stored in the monastery. One of them – the gilded overlays for the Gospel decorated with a vegetable ornament and a gate. Another – a clay jug for water. Scientists relate both finds to the 15-th century. Getting to this sacred place, the person remains alone with himself and God. The Katskhi pillar is located in the western region of Georgia - Imereti, in 11 km from the city of Chiatura, it is convenient to visit  it on the way from Tbilisi to Kutaisi. The good asphalted road with picturesque views goes almost to the pillar, except the last kilometer where the dirty road with concrete plates begins. Car rental service  FSTA  will help to make a trip to this  remarkable place with safety and comfort  www.fstarentcar.com

Sighnaghi - The City of Love, It Has Everything Yet Ahead !
Sighnaghi is a small town in the east of Georgia situated on the mountainside in the historical region of Kakheti. It was founded in the 17-th century during the reign of King Heraclius II of Georgia, and as locals say, it is the only city in Georgia that has fully preserved the fortress walls that are crowned with watchtowers, where one can climb to get the magnificent view of the Alazani valley.

New pages in the history book of the small town have been written in the last decades with the beginning of the capital reconstruction. The aim is to transform Sighnaghi into the centre of tourism. By 2007 Sighnaghi has turned into an European town with narrow cobbled streets, small houses with bright red tiled roof in the style of South Italian classicism.

There are three medieval churches and all of them are under construction. But only 2km away from Sighnaghi, there is a famous Bodbe monastery, where the remains of the St. Nino are enshrined (4th century).

City of wine and love, as it is being called in recent years, is very much appealing to those who are tired of rush and hustle, and like everything lovely, cute and small. Walking through Sighnaghi, you might feel like in Italy – the architecture is pretty similar to small Italian towns. Romantic cobbled streets, carved balconies, 24/7 marriage registration.

Explore the wineries
Do not forget that Kakheti is a land of wine. Take a look at wine shops and cellars, tasting famous Georgian wines: Rkatsiteli, Tsinandali, Saperavi. Ask the owners about the way their wine is produced, they will gladly share with you this precious experience.

Sighnaghi is a convenient starting point for those who want to explore its surroundings. 50 km away from Sighnaghi the oldest Nekresi Monastery is located, with the most tasty water in Georgia, the Gremi fortress, two big cities of the Kakheti region Kvareli and Telavi, Lagodekhi protected areas and other sights that you can tour and return for an overnight back to Sighnaghi.
You will not regret if you choose Sighnaghi for sightseeing, photosession, staff party, romantic weekend or an escape from big city life.

Despite the above mentioned spots in Sighnaghi, it is to note that the modern Sighnaghi resembles a touristic project rather than a complete city. Maybe it’s not the time yet, and soon these nice streets will be crowded with people, and there will be life running in hotels, squares, shops. We believe it will happen soon.

All 4 seasons in one city
Borjomi is a resort town in south-central Georgia with a population estimated at 14,445. It is one of the districts of the Samtskhe-Javakheti region and is situated in the northwestern part of the region in the picturesque Borjomi on the eastern edge of the “Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park”. The town is famous for its mineral water industry (which is the number one export of Georgia), the Romanov summer palace in Likani  and Borjomi mineral water is particularly well known in those countries which were part of the former Soviet Union; the bottling of mineral water is a major source of income for the area. Because of the supposed curative powers of the area's mineral springs, it is a frequent destination for people with health problems. Borjomi is also home to the most extensive ecologically-themed amusement park in the Caucasus.
Legend has it that the name “Borjomi” comes from two words: “borj” (fortress) and “omi” (war). In the past, wars frequently happened in the area, during which Borjomi Canyon was a strategic military base; the mountains surrounding the city provided a natural fortress and were also perfect sites for watchtowers.
The first attempts to industrially produce Borjomi mineral water were made as early as 1850 .
By 1900 the production volume of Borjomi mineral water exceeded 1 million bottles per year.
In 1980 “Borjomi” water became the first widely recognised brand in the Soviet Union; its white and red label was familiar to almost every consumer. Up to 1 million half litre bottles were sold daily, whilst annual production volume reached 400 million bottles. With Borjomi becoming the most popular water in the Union, the brand earned its place in national history.
Drinking Borjomi mineral water is good for dental health. The fluoride and iodide in the water help to decrease the risk of tooth decay.
Set within the stunning valleys of the southern Caucasus, the Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park spans over 700 square km, making it Europe’s largest national park. Thanks to its picturesque scenery, easy accessibility, fresh climate and, of course, its mineral springs, the area has become one of the most popular resorts in the former Soviet Union.
As a ‘climate phenomenon’ it is of particular interest to scientists and ethnographers, for the area boasts a unique ecosystem contributed to by crystalline glacier water from the Bakuriani Mountains, relict pine forests and volcanic springs in the Borjomi Canyon.

Places to visit: City park, Borjomi Kharagauli national park , The Green Monastery, Romanov Palace.
Things to buy : Near the entry to the city park, locals sell home-made jam from pine tree cones. It is claimed that the jam is useful when curing upper respiratory tract infections and is good for improving immunity.
Places to stay: Rixos hotel borjomi, Hotel Borjomis Kheoba, Hotel Texel, Hotel Borjomi, Hillside Guest House.

“National cuisine of Georgia”
Georgian cuisine is probably the most important attraction of the country. Since the traditional Georgian feast is an integral element of culture, Georgian entertainment should match its high level. Georgians have managed to make their cuisine not only magically delicious but also bright, original, exquisite, unique and unforgettable.
Therefore, Georgian cuisine absorbed the best culinary traditions of many people of Transcaucasia, Asia and the Black Sea coast.

Georgian cuisine refers to the cooking styles and dishes that originate in the country of Georgia and which are historically prepared by Georgian people around the world.

The easterners use corn flour to cook thick mash - gomi - and eat it instead of bread with meat and vegetable dishes. Eastern Georgians cook mutton, use many animal fats along with the core Georgian meat beef, while in the Western Georgia they eat much less meat and favor poultry – chicken and turkeys.

In the western Georgia they prefer rennet cheeses- suluguni and Imeretian. As for the eastern Georgia there they prefer spicy and salty cheeses – Kobian, Tushin and Georgian. Both western and eastern Georgias are famous for their special spice sauce from nuts and spices used with meats.

Georgian cuisine is the result of the rich interplay of culinary ideas carried along the trade routes by merchants and travelers alike. The importance of both food and drink to Georgian culture is best observed during a feast called “Supra”  when a huge assortment of dishes are prepared, always accompanied by large amounts of wine, and that can last for hours. In a Georgian feast, the role of the “Tamada” (toastmaster) is an important and honoured position.

However, these insignificant differences can not be the reason of distinguishing between western and eastern cuisines. There is only one "Georgian cuisine" when it comes to reception of a guest of honor. And of course only the freshest ingredients, obligatory sauces, seasonings, spices and greens are used for cooking.
